Siti Cable has introduced a new anime-focused offering, ‘Crunchyroll Anime Stream’, in partnership with Sony YAY!, marking a notable step towards expanding anime access on traditional cable platforms in India. The channel went live on April 21 and is positioned as one of the early collaborations between a television network and a cable operator to bring a dedicated anime service to cable households.
The development, announced through a Sony YAY! press release, reflects the growing appetite for Japanese animation among Indian viewers, particularly in regional language formats. With anime steadily gaining traction beyond niche audiences, the move aims to make the genre more accessible to mainstream cable subscribers who may not be active on streaming platforms.
The channel’s programming lineup includes globally popular titles such as Naruto, Black Clover, and Robotan, with a clear focus on dubbed content to cater to local audiences. This approach aligns with broader industry efforts to localise international content and make it more relatable for Indian viewers across different regions.
The launch also builds on a wider trend seen over the past year, where multiple platforms have experimented with dedicated anime channels. Services linked to Crunchyroll have already been rolled out across direct-to-home operators such as Dish TV, Tata Play, and Airtel Digital TV, signalling sustained interest in the category.
Backed by Sony Pictures Networks India, Sony YAY! has been actively strengthening its anime portfolio, and this partnership with Siti Cable extends its reach further into cable homes, complementing its presence across digital and DTH ecosystems.
The larger shift is becoming increasingly clear. Anime is no longer confined to a niche segment in India. With more platforms investing in dedicated channels and localised storytelling, the genre is steadily moving into the mainstream. For Siti Cable and Sony YAY!, the launch is not just about expanding their channel lineup, but about tapping into a rapidly growing fan base and turning anime viewing into a more consistent, everyday habit for audiences across the country.
