The sequel to the 2007 cult romantic thriller ‘Awarapan’ is officially on its way to the big screen. Production banner Vishesh Films has announced that ‘Awarapan 2’, starring Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani, will release in cinemas on August 14, setting up a major Independence Day weekend outing for audiences.
According to a PTI report, the film is described as an action drama centred on “one man’s fight for love, death and redemption.” It sees Emraan Hashmi reprise his role as Shivam, the brooding protagonist whose story struck a chord with audiences in the original film, while Disha Patani joins the franchise for the first time, adding a fresh dynamic to the narrative.
The sequel is directed by Nitin Kakkar, known for his work on ‘Filmistan’, and written by Bilal Siddiqui. The film is produced by Vishesh Bhatt and is currently in its final leg of production in Mumbai, with the makers gearing up for its theatrical rollout.
Over the years, ‘Awarapan’ has built a loyal fan base, remembered for its music, emotional depth, and the layered portrayal of its lead character. With the sequel bringing back its central figure while introducing new elements, expectations are naturally high among fans who have followed the story since its first release.
With a release date locked for August 14, ‘Awarapan 2’ is positioned to tap into the extended holiday window, aiming to draw audiences looking for a mix of action, drama, and emotional storytelling on the big screen.
