Shemaroo Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the entire content library of OHO Gujarati for its streaming platform ShemarooMe, marking a significant consolidation in the Gujarati OTT space. The move is aimed at strengthening the platform’s regional content offering while expanding its digital portfolio in a focused manner.
According to a Shemaroo press release, the acquisition brings more than 30 original Gujarati web series to ShemarooMe, making it one of the most extensive collections of Gujarati web content available on a single platform. The catalogue also includes performances by over 450 local actors, further reinforcing the platform’s connection with regional storytelling and talent.
The development builds on ShemarooMe’s existing presence in Gujarati entertainment, where it has steadily evolved into a comprehensive content ecosystem featuring originals, curated titles and culturally rooted narratives. With this addition, the platform is expected to deepen its engagement with Gujarati audiences both in India and globally.
Commenting on the acquisition, Saurabh Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer – Digital Business at Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd., said the focus remains on making high-quality Gujarati stories more accessible while continuing to invest in compelling content. He noted that the OHO Gujarati catalogue has the potential to travel widely and offer viewers a richer entertainment experience.
The first title from the acquired library to stream on the platform will be ‘Vitthal Teedi’, starring Pratik Gandhi. Scheduled to premiere on April 10, the series is set in 1980s Saurashtra and follows the journey of a small-time gambler navigating personal values and challenging circumstances. Known for its rooted storytelling, the show also features music by artists such as Aditya Gadhvi, Jigardan Gadhavi and Geeta Rabari, adding to its regional authenticity.
The acquisition aligns with Shemaroo’s broader digital growth strategy, which focuses on sustainable expansion, deeper regional engagement and building a strong pipeline of original and curated content across languages. With regional content consumption on the rise, the move signals ShemarooMe’s intent to further strengthen its foothold in the regional OTT market.
