ZEE5 and Applause Entertainment are strengthening their ongoing creative collaboration with a new direct-to-digital film titled ‘Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa’. Produced in association with Mithya Talkies, the film is written and directed by Rajat Kapoor and is set to premiere exclusively on Hindi ZEE5 from April 10.
This development comes as part of an official press release, underscoring the continued partnership between the two content players that has, over time, delivered a diverse slate of stories across genres. From the psychological drama ‘Mithya’ to the dark comedy ‘Bloody Brothers’ and the mature romance ‘Jab Khuli Kitaab’, the collaboration has steadily built a reputation for distinctive storytelling.
With ‘Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa’, the partnership now explores the whodunnit space, offering a layered murder mystery infused with satire and emotional complexity. The film brings together a strong ensemble cast including Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Waluscha De Sousa, Saurabh Shukla, Neil Bhoopalam, Koel Puri and Palomi Ghosh, among others.
The film promises a fresh take on the classic murder mystery, going beyond the mechanics of solving a crime to explore the emotional undercurrents within relationships. It delves into the tensions, silences, and hidden fractures among characters who appear close-knit on the surface, adding depth to the narrative.
Speaking on the collaboration, Kaveri Das of ZEE5 highlighted that the platform’s strategy remains focused on building long-term creative partnerships that deliver high-impact, genre-driven storytelling. Echoing similar sentiment, Sunil Chainani from Applause Entertainment noted that the association has consistently allowed for experimentation across tones and narratives, with the new film adding another dimension to their shared slate.
Rajat Kapoor, who directs and features in the film, described his interest in exploring genre cinema, particularly the whodunnit format. He emphasised that the story looks at the emotional conflicts that precede violence, making it as much about relationships as it is about mystery.
