Serena Menon is set to move on from Netflix after a seven-year stint, stepping down from her role as Director, Public Relations, India. She is likely to join Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, marking a significant leadership shift within the streaming and entertainment communications landscape.
The development was shared through a LinkedIn post update, where Menon reflected on her tenure at Netflix and expressed gratitude for her experience with the company. Her exit comes shortly after another leadership change within Amazon’s streaming communications ecosystem, signalling a broader reshuffle in the sector.
At Netflix, Menon most recently led the India publicity team, playing a key role in shaping the platform’s brand and reputation in one of its most competitive markets. As Director, Public Relations, India, she oversaw strategic communications, brand positioning, and high-impact earned campaigns for both local originals and international titles. Her work contributed to strengthening the streamer’s presence in India through focused storytelling and market-specific publicity initiatives.
Earlier, she served as Director, Photo and AV Studio, Asia Pacific, where she managed creative teams across multiple markets including India, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia. In this role, she worked on developing visual narratives and campaign strategies aimed at enhancing title promotion and audience engagement across the region.
Menon began her journey at Netflix in 2018 as Manager, Visual Communications, India, before taking on the role of India Lead, Photo and AV Studio. She was instrumental in building the team from the ground up and establishing operational processes that supported the company’s rapid expansion in the country.
Before entering the streaming industry, Menon built strong editorial experience at Elle as Managing Editor and Associate Editor, where she led film and lifestyle coverage and worked on brand-led initiatives. She also spent over six years at Hindustan Times, progressing through roles including Staff Writer, Senior Staff Writer, Principal Correspondent, and Assistant Editor.
Reflecting on her journey, Menon described her time at Netflix as defining, highlighting the opportunity to build and lead teams while crafting narratives that would endure beyond her tenure. She also acknowledged the contribution of colleagues, collaborators, and the India PR team in shaping her professional growth.
With experience spanning newsroom journalism and global brand communications, Menon’s transition to Amazon’s studio and streaming ecosystem comes at a time when competition in the digital entertainment space continues to intensify, making her next move closely watched across the industry.
