Rabindra Narayan’s new project GTC News starts GSAT30 test signals

Former PTC Network’s boss Rabindra Narayan’s new venture has started its formal journey as the proposed GTC News channel, part of GTC Network, started bouncing test signals from the Indian satellite GSAT30.

In a LinkedIn post late last week, Narayan — fondly called the father of Punjabi language satellite television in deference to his contributions in nurturing this space — revealed the development while detailing the importance of the announcement.

What does Narayan want to do with GTC News? The vision, according to him, is clear: Punjabi language news with global satellite reach; faster, cleaner and more relevant coverage; live reporting that respects the viewers’ time and a backbone that’s built with an AI-first approach for smarter updates.

“This is the start of a new era in Punjabi news distribution. More details and platform rollouts coming shortly,” Narayan added with a very symbolic photograph accompanying the text —- he posing in front of a background emblazoned with ‘Breaking News’ phrase on a GTC News screen.

The 24-transponder GSAT30, which was sent to space by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 2020, is an operational communication satellite for DTH, television uplink and VSAT services. The communication payload of GSAT30, according to ISRO, is specially designed and optimised to maximize the number of transponders and provides Indian mainland and islands coverage in KU-band and extended coverage in C-band covering Gulf countries, Asian countries and Australia.

The news about the start of GTC News test signals comes close on the heels of a distribution and content generation tieup Narayan had announced in December 2025 with the United States-based 4G Media USA LLC .

The long-term collaboration is aimed at developing a Punjabi content creation and distribution network in the United States. The partnership brings together GTC’s programming library from India with 4G Media’s local production capabilities, with plans to expand across television, digital streaming and live community events, a media statement issued in December had stated.

Earlier, in August 2025, Narayan had announced he was stepping down as President and Managing Director of Punjab-based PTC Network to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. He had led the Punjabi media giant for nearly two decades and had many firsts against his and PTC’s names.

In a heartfelt statement, Narayan had remarked, “PTC was never just a job — it was a mission. Together with an extraordinary team, we built a network of six channels, launched many global firsts, and gave Punjabi voices a global platform. Today, I take that mission forward into a new era. The next chapter is about scale, innovation, and global reach.”

Narayan had promised that his new venture would aim to integrate legacy television, digital platforms, events and film production while leveraging cutting-edge technology and AI-driven content creation.

To support expansion and fuel his new dream for GTC Network, production hubs are being established in California’s Central Valley and New York City in the US. These facilities will produce fiction and non-fiction series, short films, news programming, and digital-first formats, the media statement had added.
