Abhijat Marathi, an OTT platform, was officially unveiled at Cannes Film Festival 2026, marking a significant milestone for Marathi entertainment and regional storytelling on the global stage. The platform, dedicated exclusively to Marathi content, was introduced during a special unveiling ceremony held at the Bharat Pavilion in Cannes, France.
According to a press release from the streaming platform, the launch was led by Kedar Narahar Joshi, Founder and owner of Abhijat Marathi, in the presence of several well-known personalities from the Marathi entertainment industry, including Ashok Saraf, Nivedita Saraf, Prajaktta Mali, Jayanti Waghdhare and Ankita Walawalkar. Following the unveiling, the dignitaries also walked the Cannes red carpet, adding to the significance of the occasion for Marathi cinema.
The platform aims to bring Marathi films, web series, music and culturally rooted stories to audiences across India as well as international markets. Through Abhijat Marathi, the makers intend to promote Maharashtra’s language, heritage and artistic talent on a larger global platform at a time when regional Indian content continues to gain international attention.
Speaking at the event, Joshi described the unveiling as a proud moment for Marathi cinema and culture. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Maharashtra for supporting the initiative and also acknowledged the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant for encouraging platforms that promote Maharashtra’s cultural identity globally.
Joshi further said the vision behind Abhijat Marathi is to take authentic Marathi storytelling and talent to audiences worldwide while preserving the essence of regional narratives and traditions.
The unveiling of the platform at Cannes also reflected the increasing global interest in regional Indian entertainment. Over the last few years, Marathi cinema and digital storytelling have steadily gained wider recognition for their rooted narratives, strong performances and culturally rich themes, helping regional content carve a stronger presence internationally.
