Netflix’s Thai action thriller ‘The Debt Collector’ has become a global success just one week after its release. The film has entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films at No. 3, highlighting the growing popularity of Thai content worldwide.
According to a Netflix press release yesterday,the movie reached the No.1 spot in Thailand within 24 hours of its release and has remained at the top ever since. It has also made it to Netflix’s Top 10 list in 56 countries, giving Thai cinema another major international milestone.
Directed by Surapong Ploensang, ‘The Debt Collector’ follows the story of Num, a former debt collector who is terminally ill and returns to the criminal underworld to protect victims of illegal loan sharks while seeking redemption for his past. The film stars Nadech Kugimiya and Daou Pittaya Saechua in the lead roles.
Speaking about the film, director Surapong Ploensang said his biggest goal was to entertain audiences with thrilling action while delivering an emotional story. He said the entire team worked hard to create an action film that keeps viewers excited from start to finish.
Netflix said the film’s strong global performance reflects the rising demand for Thai stories among international audiences. The success of ‘The Debt Collector’ further strengthens Thailand’s growing presence on the global streaming platform.
