Netflix has shared new data showing where K-drama fans are most passionate in Brazil. The announcement is part of Netflix’s celebration of 10 years of Korean stories on the platform.
According to Netflix, K-dramas have become a major part of entertainment in Brazil. The North and Northeast regions of the country have emerged as some of the strongest markets for Korean dramas.
Among the states, Alagoas, Maranhao and Para have recorded particularly high interest in K-dramas compared with their local audiences. Netflix also highlighted the growing popularity of Korean content among Brazilian viewers.
A survey conducted for Netflix found that 60 percent of people surveyed in Brazil have watched a K-drama at least once. Around 30 percent of K-drama viewers said they watch Korean dramas every day.
Romantic comedies are among the favourite K-drama genres for Brazilian viewers. Korean dramas have also gained a wider audience through popular global titles, with shows such as ‘Squid Game’ helping Korean stories reach viewers around the world.
The survey also showed that many Brazilian K-drama fans find Korean shows highly entertaining and addictive.
Interest is particularly strong in the Northeast, where viewers showed a high preference for K-dramas compared with other types of shows.
Netflix’s latest announcement highlights how Korean entertainment has grown beyond its original market and developed strong fan communities in countries such as Brazil.
The streamer is celebrating 10 years of Korean storytelling on Netflix this year, marking a decade of Korean series and films reaching audiences around the world.
