‘Mirzapur’ S3, ‘Panchayat’ S3 and ‘Heeramandi’ were the top three most viewed Hindi web series of 2024 in India with viewership of 30.8 million, 28.2 million and 21.5 million, respectively, while ‘Squid Game’ second season (19.6 million) was the most watched international show, according to an Ormax Media report.
The report, titled ‘Streaming Originals in India: The 2024 Story’, also stated that ‘Squid Game’ S2 was not only the most-watched international original in India in 2024, but of all-time.
According to the report, ‘Big Boss OTT’ S3, ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ season one and ‘Shark Tank India’ S3 were the most-watched shows in the Indian Unscripted Content category with viewership of 17.8 million, 15.7 million and 12.5 million, respectively.
Ormas Media said the report looks at the top original shows and films released in 2024 in Hindi, International, Telugu and Tamil languages on three parameters: Viewership, Marketing Buzz and Content Strength
It clarified that the report focuses only on original content and did not cover other ‘non-original’ content on streaming, such as theatrical films, catch-up television, sports, etc.
“This report covers streaming originals on all major platforms except YouTube. In this context, we extend a special mention to ‘India’s Got Latent’ on the YouTube channel Samay Raina. The show would have comfortably made it to the top 3 list of originals in our report, if YouTube originals were considered,” Ormax added.
Viewership is estimated using primary research conducted among audiences across India at a weekly level, projected to the OTT universe in India and no secondary data, including that put out by platforms in the public domain, were used for the report.
The viewership estimates (reported in millions) represent the number of people who watched the show (at least one full episode) or the film (at least 30 mins.). It does not represent the number of accounts used for watching the show/film. For example, three members of a family, or two friends and watching on the same account are considered as unique audience (3 & 2 respectively, in these examples)
Ormax also stated that ‘Hinglish’ content, as well as Indian English content, where Hindi is the primary Indian language of consumption, has been reported under Hindi language in this report
