Collective Media Network’s Historyverse has announced an all-new AI-powered adaptation of the ‘Mahabharat‘, set to make a grand return to Indian television. The much-anticipated series will premiere on WAVES OTT on October 25 before making its television debut on Doordarshan every Sunday at 11 am, starting November 2.
According to an update shared on WAVES’ official X account, this reimagined version of the ‘Mahabharat’ combines India’s timeless heritage with cutting-edge AI technology. The collaboration between Doordarshan and Collective Media Network marks a major step in bringing mythological storytelling into the digital age. Using advanced AI tools, the project aims to recreate the universe of the epic — from its legendary characters and grand battlefields to pivotal moments that shaped the story — in a way that resonates with both traditional and modern audiences.
The initiative aligns with India’s ‘Make in India and Digital India’ missions, showcasing how innovation and culture can coexist to create immersive entertainment experiences.
Vijay Subramaniam, Founder and Group CEO of Collective Artists Network, said, “Like millions of Indians, I grew up watching the classic ‘Mahabharata’ on television every Sunday — it was an experience that shaped my imagination and connection to our culture. With this adaptation, our hope is to give today’s generation a similar touchstone, one that feels immersive and unifying, but told through the possibilities of today’s technology. This is about bhakti and pragati walking together — something deeply rooted in tradition and boldly forward-looking.”
Echoing his sentiments, Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, said, “Prasar Bharati has always brought stories of national and cultural significance to every Indian home. The re-telecast of the original ‘Mahabharat’ during the lockdown reminded us how deeply these narratives bind families and generations.
“Partnering on this AI-led reimagining allows audiences to experience one of India’s greatest epics anew — honouring tradition while embracing cutting-edge technology in storytelling. It is an expression of Vikas and Virasat coming together in modern broadcasting.”
WAVES OTT is Prasar Bharati’s streaming platform and offers family-friendly content.
