Dharma Productions’ historical drama ‘Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh’, featuring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday in pivotal roles, is set for its world television premiere on Star Gold on Saturday, September 13, at 8 pm.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film revisits one of the darkest chapters of India’s colonial past. The story unfolds through the perspective of C. Sankaran Nair, the fearless lawyer who dared to confront the British establishment by exposing the horrors of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. It’s an UNI report.
Reflecting on the premiere, Akshay Kumar said, “Playing C. Sankaran Nair has been one of the most fulfilling roles of my career. His story is a testament to the fact that courage isn’t just on the battlefield—it’s also found in the fight for truth and justice. I am glad that this untold story will now reach millions of households across the country.”
R. Madhavan, who plays Neville McKinley, spoke of the challenge his role presented: “Neville McKinley was a complex character to portray. His journey was one of deep internal conflict, and being part of such a powerful narrative was a privilege. The courtroom battle will give audiences an insight into a truth many were unaware of.”
Ananya Panday, essaying the role of Dilreet Gill, added, “She represents the fearless youth who placed truth above everything. To be a part of a film that captures such an important historical moment was truly an honour. I hope viewers, especially the younger generation, feel the pride and inspiration that I did while bringing Dilreet’s character to life.”
Producer Karan Johar described the project as one of immense pride for Dharma Productions. “The story of C. Sankaran Nair is a powerful testament to the fight for truth, and we were committed to bringing this pivotal chapter in our history to screen with grandeur and authenticity,” he said.
Director Karan Singh Tyagi explained his motivation behind the film: “C. Sankaran Nair’s courage to expose the truth of Jallianwala Bagh deeply impressed me. This was not just a historical event but a turning point in India’s freedom struggle. Through this film, I wanted people to be aware of his bravery and relentless pursuit of justice.”
