Kavita Kaushik is stepping back into a cop’s uniform with a twist in ‘Kaptaan’, the gritty drama currently streaming on Amazon MX Player. Known for playing strong, authoritative roles in the past, the actor says this time the character pushed her into unfamiliar territory, exploring darker and more layered shades.
According to an Amazon MX Player press release, ‘Kaptaan’ is set in the volatile world of Jwalabad and revolves around power struggles, shifting loyalties, and morally complex characters. Among them is DSP Preet, played by Kaushik, a role that stands out for its intensity and unpredictability.
Speaking about what drew her to the role, Kaushik shared that while she has portrayed strong characters before, this one offered something distinctly different. She pointed to the negative shades of the character as the biggest pull, adding that it required her to balance intensity with subtlety while understanding motivations without making the role one-dimensional. The process, she noted, pushed her out of her comfort zone as an actor.
She also reflected on the pace and energy of the shoot, describing it in one word—speed. According to Kaushik, the filming process was faster than any project she has worked on before, yet it never felt chaotic. Instead, she highlighted the clarity and preparation on set, which helped maintain efficiency while keeping the energy high and infectious for the entire cast and crew.
Directed by Jatin Wagle and produced by Pammi Baweja and Harman Baweja under Baweja Studios, the series features an ensemble cast including Saqib Saleem, Siddharth Nigam, Varun Badola, Anjumm Shharma, Aarif Zakaria, Pooja Gor, Vikram Kochhar, and Anushka Kaushik in key roles.
Now streaming for free, ‘Kaptaan’ continues to build momentum among viewers with its intense narrative and character-driven storytelling, with Kaushik’s performance emerging as one of its key highlights.
