The Kannada film ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’, which made waves across Indian cinema with its powerful storytelling and cultural depth, is all set for its OTT premiere.
Prime Video, in an official announcement, confirmed that the film will begin streaming on the platform from October 31, reaching audiences in over 200 countries and regions worldwide.
According to a UNI report, the original version will be available in Kannada, while dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam will also be released simultaneously. However, Hindi viewers will have to wait slightly longer, as the Hindi version will not be part of the initial digital rollout.
Produced by Hombale Films, ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ was released theatrically on October 2 during the Dasara festive season and went on to become one of the year’s biggest blockbusters. The film has reportedly grossed Rs.589.50 crore nett in India and crossed Rs.800 crore worldwide, underlining its phenomenal box office success.
Written, directed, and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in key roles. Known for its striking visuals, spiritual symbolism, and emotional storytelling, ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ has earned widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences.
Commenting on the digital release, Manish Menghani, Director and Head of Content Licensing at Prime Video India, said the film “has opened a new chapter in Indian cinema by showing how stories deeply rooted in regional culture can connect with audiences globally.” He added that the platform is excited to bring the film to viewers across the world starting October 31.
Set against the backdrop of the Kadamba dynasty period, the film delves into the origin of the sacred forest spirit Panjurli Daiva and highlights the eternal conflict between nature, greed, and divine power. It also received praise for its authentic portrayal of the Bhoota Kola tradition of coastal Karnataka.
With its upcoming OTT release, the makers aim to take the cultural, spiritual, and cinematic experience of ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ to an even wider global audience, solidifying its place as one of India’s most celebrated regional epics.
