Indian cinema is set to witness a powerful cross-cultural collaboration as ‘My Melbourne’, an anthology directed by Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Rima Das, and Onir, gears up for its theatrical release in India on March 14, 2025.
Produced by Mitu Bhowmick Lange under the banner of Mind Blowing Films, the project brings together compelling narratives that bridge Indian and Australian cultures, shedding light on themes of race, gender, sexuality, and disability.
Having already made waves at film festivals in Melbourne and Mumbai, My Melbourne is a collection of four emotionally charged stories ‘Nandini’ by Onir, ‘Setara’ by Kabir Khan, ‘Emma’ by Rima Das, and ‘Jules’, led by Imtiaz Ali. The anthology unfolds in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Dari, and Auslan, reflecting the diverse backgrounds and struggles of its characters.
Speaking about the film, producer Mitu Bhowmick Lange emphasized that My Melbourne is not just about storytelling but about forging deep human connections across cultures. Kabir Khan described his segment Setara as an exploration of resilience and identity, while Rima Das, Onir, and Imtiaz Ali echoed the sentiment that the project serves as a celebration of diversity, amplifying voices that are often unheard.
With its release across India, ‘My Melbourne’ promises to be a thought-provoking cinematic experience, offering audiences a poignant reflection on identity, belonging, and the unbreakable human spirit.
