JioHotstar has released the official teaser of its upcoming original series ‘Salakaar’, a gripping spy thriller headlined by Naveen Kasturia and Mouni Roy. Directed by Faruk Kabir and inspired by real events, the high-octane series is set to premiere on August 8.
‘Salakaar’, produced by Sphereorigins and Mahir Films, unfolds across two timelines 1978 and 2025 weaving a narrative that bridges past and present in a tense, espionage-laden plotline. At the heart of the story is a seasoned Indian intelligence officer navigating covert missions and political conspiracies to safeguard national interests. With old enemies resurfacing and secrets threatening to upend the present, the series promises an emotionally charged and cerebral spy drama.
Kabir, who also co-wrote the show, described ‘Salakaar’ as “an intense spy thriller with a deeply emotional core.”
“This is not about action for the sake of spectacle,” Kabir said, “It’s about intelligence as strategy and silence as sacrifice. The series is a tribute to those unsung minds who fought not just with bullets, but with brilliance. Working with Naveen, Mouni and Mukesh ji has been an absolute pleasure — they brought authenticity and gravitas to each role.”
Kasturia, known for his sharp portrayals in critically acclaimed digital shows, said the role was unlike anything he’s done before. The show was
“an immense challenge” as portraying someone constantly on the edge, whose life depends on discretion and intellect, was both “demanding and rewarding”, he added.
For Mouni, ‘Salakaar’ marks a stark shift in tone and character. “This was a world I hadn’t stepped into before. The emotional complexity of the script, combined with political intrigue, made it one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I’ve worked on,” she said.
Veteran actor Mukesh Rishi praised the show’s cerebral approach to storytelling, noting ‘Salakaar’ “values intellect as much as intensity.”
Rounding out the ensemble is Surya Sharma.
