The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, in conjunction with Disney Star, is launching a pioneering vertical video feed as part of its world feed match coverage, which promises to excite cricket fans and transform cricket broadcasting. This will change how fans experience the largest Cricket World Cup ever.

The ICC’s vertical video stream is a game-changer in sports coverage, being the first of its type for all 48 World Cup events. This technical advancement is intended to provide fans with a smooth and intuitive viewing experience on their mobile phones, allowing them to watch material on the move in the most ergonomic handheld posture.

This strategy offers fans enhanced access to World Cup action and a distinctive viewing experience, the ICC said in a statement.

The vertical feed will incorporate split screens into its coverage, adding depth and context to on-field action. The split-screen feature will bring viewers closer to the heart of the game, fostering a deeper connection with the action and the cricketing icons they admire.

The production of this vertical video feed will involve a meticulously curated selection of dedicated vertically oriented cameras, complemented by the world feed cameras for split-screen displays. To further enrich the vertically oriented coverage, the production will incorporate match graphics and custom enhancements.

The vertical video feed will leverage traditional technical and editorial storytelling tools to elevate the coverage to new heights. Features such as ball tracking, player tracking, and field plot will be tailored to suit the vertical format, ensuring fans do not miss a single moment of the action. Furthermore, the coverage will feature a world-class commentary panel, providing expert insights and commentary to enhance the viewing experience.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023’s adoption of the vertical video feed supported by Disney Star is poised to usher in a new era of cricket consumption, where fans can immerse themselves in the game like never before, bringing the excitement and drama of the World Cup right to their fingertips.

Sanjog Gupta, Head – Sports, Disney Star said: “Consumers’ preferences and habits are evolving more rapidly than ever before, catalyzing the emergence of new user experiences. Disney Star has always played a pioneering role in taking cricket viewing experiences forward and is now proud to collaborate with the ICC to bring to sports fans for the first-time ever the ‘vertical feed’, on ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

“The ‘vertical feed’ aims to deliver to digital users, enhanced convenience, engagement and immersion, beyond the differentiated screen orientation. With its uniquely designed production style entailing cameras, graphics, direction, replays and other enhancements, it promises to change the way cricket is watched,” Gupta added.

ICC Chief Commercial Officer, Anurag Dahiya, said: “Cricket fans always look forward to the high-quality broadcast coverage of ICC events. With this in mind, the ICC TV team continuously strives to tailor our coverage to fan preferences. We are very excited to launch cricket’s first-ever vertical video production at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

“This game-changing initiative promises to transform the fan viewing experience.
