Google News, one of the leading news aggregation platforms, has recently announced a significant expansion in its support for Indian languages.
The move is aimed at bolstering the Indian language news ecosystem and making information more accessible to people across the country.
With this development, Google News now includes two additional Indian languages, namely Gujarati and Punjabi. These languages will be available on the platform in the coming weeks, bringing the total number of supported languages in India to 10, IANS reported.
The decision to add Gujarati and Punjabi to Google News is part of the company’s broader initiative to expand the language web and cater to the diverse linguistic preferences of Indian users. By offering content in multiple Indian languages, Google aims to ensure that more users can access information in a language they are comfortable with.
In a recent statement, Google expressed its commitment to bridging the language barrier and making information accessible to people worldwide. The addition of these two languages reinforces the tech giant’s dedication to its users and aligns with its vision of a more inclusive internet experience.
Sanjay Gupta, Country Manager and Vice President of Google India, emphasized the importance of news publishers in this effort. He highlighted Google’s commitment to partnering with the news ecosystem to promote the growth of the Indian language internet.
The GNI initiative will deliver its support in nine languages, including English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi. With such linguistic diversity, it stands as Google’s most diverse technology program for news publishers to date.
