American television network Fox has officially given the go-ahead for a reboot of the iconic lifeguard drama ‘Baywatch’, a show that became a global pop culture sensation in the 1990s.
According to a PTI report , the new series has received a straight-to-series order and will comprise 12 episodes. The revival is being produced jointly by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle and is slated to premiere in 2026.
The original ‘Baywatch’ made its debut in 1989 and went on to run for 11 seasons, achieving massive international popularity. At its peak, it was one of the most-watched shows across the world, celebrated for its mix of high-stakes rescues, beachside drama, and unforgettable characters.
The reboot aims to reintroduce the legendary lifeguards to a new generation of viewers, while retaining the spirit of the original series that turned it into a household name. Further details about the cast and creative direction are expected to be announced in the coming months.
