Amid swirling media reports about the ban of OTT platform ALTT, renowned television and film producer Ekta Kapoor has issued an official statement through Balaji Telefilms Limited, distancing herself and her mother, Shobha Kapoor, from the platform.
The clarification comes in light of recent actions by the government that reportedly led to ALTT, amongst 24 other such services, being disabled by ISPs and others for hosting risqué content.
In the formal note titled ‘To Whomsoever It May Concern’, Balaji Telefilms — a publicly listed company on BSE and NSE — confirmed that following a National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)-approved merger, ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd., previously a wholly-owned subsidiary, has now been fully amalgamated into Balaji Telefilms as of June 20, 2025.
Addressing the media reports head-on, the company categorically stated that Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor have had no association with ALTT since June 2021. “Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities. However, contrary to such reports, Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT,” the statement noted, “Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and the media is requested to report the accurate facts.”
The statement further emphasized that Balaji Telefilms remains a professionally run media organization adhering strictly to all legal and regulatory norms. “Balaji Telefilms Limited is fully compliant with all applicable laws and continues to operate its business with the highest standards of corporate governance,” the note concluded.
