The Walt Disney Company has launched the Office of Technology Enablement to explore the transformative potential of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality, across its film, television, and theme park segments.
Jamie Voris, Disney’s chief technology officer and the lead behind the development of Disney’s app for Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality device, will head this new group, a Reuters report stated.
Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, emphasized the necessity of adapting to rapid advancements in AI and extended reality (XR), highlighting their lasting impact on consumer experiences, creative projects, and business operations.
“The pace and scope of the advances in AI and XR are profound… making it critical that Disney explore the exciting opportunities and navigate the potential risks,” Bergman noted.
The Office of Technology Enablement will not centralize all tech initiatives but aims to align emerging tech projects with Disney‘s strategic vision, supporting innovation across its diverse entertainment ecosystem. The group, initially composed of around 100 team members, will likely expand as it delves into augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) applications, which blend digital and physical realms.
