Prime Video has released the official trailer for the second season of its critically acclaimed Australian crime comedy ‘Deadloch’, announcing that the new season will premiere globally on March 20.
The six-part series, created by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, will stream across more than 240 countries and territories, with the first two episodes launching on the premiere date followed by weekly releases until the season finale on April 17.
According to a press release, the new season shifts its setting from Tasmania to Australia’s sweltering Northern Territory, marking what the makers describe as the show’s “Tropical Gothic” phase. The story follows detectives Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe as they travel to Darwin to investigate the death of Eddie’s former policing partner. Their investigation takes an unexpected turn when a body part is discovered in the remote town of Barra Creek, drawing them into a complex case while local authorities focus on the search for two missing backpackers.
Set against the humid and rugged backdrop of Australia’s Top End, the narrative unfolds amid crocodile-driven tourism, guarded local communities and environmental challenges. As the investigation deepens, the detectives confront a web of secrets hidden within the small town, raising questions not only about the case but also about the tensions simmering beneath the surface.
The new season sees the return of cast members Kate Box, Madeleine Sami, Nina Oyama and Alicia Gardiner. Joining the ensemble are Luke Hemsworth, Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, Jean Tong, Genevieve Morris, Byron Coll and Nikki Britton, among others. The expanded cast is expected to bring fresh dynamics and layered storytelling to the series’ signature blend of humour and suspense.
Sarah Christie, head of Australian and New Zealand originals at Amazon MGM Studios, said the new season builds on the global success of the first instalment, which resonated with audiences internationally. She noted that the show’s authentic storytelling and distinctive tone helped it become both a critical and cultural success beyond Australia.
Creators McCartney and McLennan described the upcoming season as a bold and immersive continuation of the story, promising a visually striking and intense experience set in the unique landscape of the Top End.
The first season of ‘Deadloch’ emerged as a breakout hit, ranking among the platform’s top 10 television shows in over 165 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. The series also earned five Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards and received an International Emmy Award nomination.
Season two is produced by Guesswork Television, OK Great Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, with Beck Cole and Gracie Otto directing.
