Critics' Choice Awards 2025 unveils nomination for 7th edition

The much-anticipated nominations for the 7th edition of the Critics’ Choice Awards (CCA) 2025 have been officially announced. Organized by GroupM Motion Entertainment in collaboration with the Film Critics Guild, the prestigious awards celebrate the finest talent in Indian cinema across short films, documentaries, web series, and feature films. This year, the introduction of a dedicated category for documentaries marks a significant milestone, further broadening the scope of recognition for compelling storytelling across various platforms.

The Critics’ Choice Awards have long served as a benchmark for excellence in Indian cinema, recognizing narratives that push creative boundaries and resonate deeply with audiences. With a distinguished panel of 59 esteemed critics from the Film Critics Guild at the helm, the awards maintain their reputation for credibility and integrity. The jury, led by Chairperson Anupama Chopra, includes prominent critics such as Sucharita Tyagi (Vice-Chairperson), Rohan Naahar (Secretary), and Bharathi Pradhan (Treasurer), along with a host of seasoned reviewers from print, radio, television, and digital media.

The nominations list features a stellar lineup of actors, directors, and writers, each recognized for their outstanding contributions to Indian entertainment. Among the top contenders, Abhishek Bachchan secured a nomination for Best Actor for his gripping performance in I Want To Talk. Expressing his gratitude, Bachchan stated, “This film has been an incredibly special journey, and to have my performance recognized by such a respected panel of critics means a great deal to me.”

Acclaimed actress Konkona Sen Sharma, nominated for her role in Killer Soup, shared her excitement, saying, “To be nominated for Critics’ Choice Awards is always an honour. To be nominated for Abhishek Chaubey’s Killer Soup makes it even more special!” Meanwhile, Kani Kusruti received a rare triple nomination for her performances in Girls Will Be Girls, Poacher, and All We Imagine as Light, calling it a “once-in-a-lifetime honour.”

Swastika Mukherjee, who earned a Best Actress nomination for her performance in the Bengali web series Bijoya, expressed her pride in representing regional cinema on a national platform. “Critics’ Choice Awards is such a huge recognition for any actor. This nomination is extra special because Bijoya is a Bengali-language show, and I get to represent my industry,” she said.

Ashwin Padmanabhan, COO of GroupM South Asia, emphasized the evolving landscape of Indian entertainment, highlighting the transformative power of storytelling. “The past year has proven to be a remarkable testament to the impact of Indian narratives. Our content continues to break new ground across every format, with the Critics’ Choice Awards standing tall as a beacon of excellence,” he remarked.

Abhayanand Singh, Co-Founder of Vistas Media, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Vistas Media has been associated with CCA since its inception, and it has grown into an iconic celebration of Indian cinema. We congratulate all participants for bringing these remarkable stories to audiences worldwide.”

This year’s nominations highlight a diverse array of talent, spanning multiple languages and formats. All We Imagine As Light, Girls Will Be Girls, and Amar Singh Chamkila emerged as strong contenders in the Best Film category, while Poacher and Killer Soup received multiple nods across web series categories. The newly introduced Best Documentary category features impactful films such as Against the Tide and The Midwife’s Confession, acknowledging the growing significance of non-fiction storytelling.

With an extensive list of nominees across categories such as Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Writing, the competition is expected to be intense. The awards ceremony, scheduled for March 25, 2025, will celebrate the winners and their contributions to India’s rich cinematic landscape.

As anticipation builds, film enthusiasts and industry insiders eagerly await the grand event, which promises to be a night of celebration, honouring India’s most exceptional storytellers.
