Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama ‘Chhaava’ has added another feather to its cap, emerging as the biggest non-franchise television premiere of 2025. After collecting over Rs.800 crore during its theatrical run, the film drew an audience of 39.2 million viewers during its world TV premiere on Star Gold on August 17.
Timed to coincide with Independence Day celebrations, the premiere carried a cultural resonance as it was simulcast in both Hindi and Marathi. For audiences, this meant not just a cinematic spectacle but also an opportunity to experience the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the language of his land and legacy.
The premiere was positioned as an event rather than a telecast, complete with a roundtable featuring Kaushal, Vineet Kumar Singh, Divya Dutta and director Laxman Utekar. Viewers were also given access to unseen deleted scenes, extending the film’s narrative journey beyond the theatre, The Firstpost reported.
