Ayushmann Khurrana, the popular Bollywood actor, has reflected on his film ‘An Action Hero’ and attributed its underwhelming performance at the box office to bad timing. The action-comedy-thriller, directed by Anirudh Iyer, received positive reviews upon its theatrical release on December 2. However, it failed to attract a large audience. The film found greater success when it premiered on Netflix in January.
Khurrana believes that timing is crucial for theatrical releases, especially in the post-pandemic era. He expressed optimism about the resurgence of theatrical releases and emphasized the importance of making choices based on favorable timing. Despite the setback, Khurrana remains committed to making such films and expects better outcomes in the future, Economic Times reported.
‘An Action Hero’ revolves around a superstar named Manav, played by Khurrana, who becomes entangled in an accident while shooting a film and tries to escape from a vengeful municipal councillor named Bhoora, portrayed by Jaideep Ahlawat.
Khurrana’s upcoming release is ‘Dream Girl 2’, the sequel to his 2019 comedy drama. In this movie, Khurrana portrays a man with the ability to impersonate a female voice, which garners attention from others. He described the sequel as more entertaining and filled with humor, anticipating a great response from audiences.
When asked about the popularity of sequels and franchises, Khurrana emphasized that while sequels of blockbuster films generate significant interest, the script remains the determining factor for success. Raaj Shaandilyaa, the director of the first installment, will return to helm ‘Dream Girl 2’.
The film also features Ananya Panday, Annu Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vijay Raaz, Manoj Joshi, Rajpal Yadav, Seema Pahwa, Manjot Singh, and Abhishek Banerjee in prominent roles.
