Amazon MGM Studios has appointed Peter Friedlander as its new Head of Global TV, a role that will see him oversee the studio’s original television content in the U.S., alongside global tentpole projects, MGM Television, and MGM Alternative.
The announcement was made by Mike Hopkins, who leads Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. In his note to staff, Hopkins underlined that Friedlander will play a central role in shaping the studio’s worldwide TV strategy and expanding its global content footprint.
Friedlander, a veteran of the streaming industry, comes to Amazon after a successful stint at Netflix, where he was head of scripted television for the U.S. and Canada. During his tenure, he helped launch and scale several international hits, including ‘Wednesday’, ‘Bridgerton’, and ‘Emily in Paris’, all of which became major franchises and cultural talking points.
He left Netflix in August 2025 and will officially assume his new position at Amazon MGM Studios on October 6. Friedlander succeeds Vernon Sanders, who recently stepped down from the studio.
With Friedlander’s appointment, Amazon MGM Studios is signaling a renewed push to compete aggressively in the global streaming market, banking on his experience in developing content that resonates with audiences across borders.
