As the year comes to a close, Netflix India looks back on the highlights of 2022 for India.
In India, Netflix released 27 movies and TV shows in 2022, spanning 10+ genres and 5 formats.
Seven out of the nine movies that were released this year were among the top 10 non-English films on Netflix worldwide, and six of the seven Netflix series that was renewed were among the top TV shows in India.
‘Darlings’ had the best opening for a Netflix movie in India and was watched in 28 countries with over 32 million total viewing hours, while ‘Monica, O My Darling’, trended at the top of the charts in 7 countries, including India, for the first two weeks after its debut.
Indian television programs ‘Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein’, ‘Mismatched S2’, and ‘Jamtara Sabka Number Ayega S2’ were the most popular this year. Every Netflix production from India that was made in 2022, on average, trended in 8 different nations, Economic Times reported.
From a heartland thriller starring an ensemble cast in ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’ to fan favorites returning in ‘Delhi Crime S2’ and ‘Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives S2’, Alia Bhatt’s ground-breaking performance in ‘Darlings’, Dhanush winning international acclaim and representing India in the Russo brothers’ action thriller ‘The Gray Man’, and falling in love with iconic soundtracks from ‘Mismatched S2’ (Aise Kyun), ‘Monica, O My Darling’ (Yeh Ek Zindagi) and ‘Stranger Things’ S4 (Running Up That Hill and Master of Puppets).
‘RRR’ (Hindi) (viewed for over 73 million hours), ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ (viewed for over 50 million hours), and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ (viewed for over 21 million hours) were three of the biggest blockbusters from India on Netflix.
