In a significant development towards enhancing user security, Bharti Airtel’s AI-driven fraud detection system has successfully shielded over 3.5 million customers in the Delhi-NCR region from potential cyber threats. The telecom major said its proactive technology-led solution has been instrumental in identifying and neutralising multiple cases of attempted digital fraud.
According to an IANS report, Airtel’s intelligent infrastructure is built to detect, flag, and block suspicious activity across its network in real time. With the rising number of cyber scams—especially through fake SMS messages, phishing links, and impersonation tactics—the company’s AI tools have become central to preemptive threat detection and user safety.
The system works by analysing vast volumes of customer and network data, identifying unusual behaviour patterns and potential fraud attempts. Airtel said the model is self-learning and continually evolves to tackle newer, more sophisticated threats. Most notably, the company has been targeting and curbing ‘wangiri’ calls—scam calls from international numbers designed to trick users into calling back at high premium rates—as well as SMS frauds and deceptive telecom messages impersonating banks, government services, or delivery platforms.
In the last few months, the Delhi-NCR circle witnessed a surge in such activities, prompting Airtel to activate an advanced layer of its fraud detection network. The telecom provider says these efforts have significantly reduced the risk exposure for its mobile customers, especially as phishing and social engineering scams continue to evolve.
