Actor Abhishek Bachchan said he has always been a devoted admirer of his father Amitabh Bachchan’s work, but he would never consider recreating any of the iconic films that shaped Hindi cinema and his own childhood.
Speaking on the second day of IFP, the multi-disciplinary creative festival held at Mumbai’s Mehboob Studios between November 29 and 30, the actor shared that his admiration for Amitabh Bachchan is rooted in years of growing up watching his films repeatedly.
“I would never ever want to recreate any of my father’s films, and the reason I say that is because I have grown up wanting to be Amitabh Bachchan. I am Bachchan’s biggest fan. I used to watch my dad’s films as often as I could,” Abhishek said, reflecting on the legacy he grew up around.
The actor added that the emotional connection he shares with his father’s body of work is what keeps him from attempting any remake, calling those films a part of his formative years rather than professional opportunities. His remarks drew applause from the audience, many of whom resonated with the sentiment of preserving cinematic memories in their original form.
Abhishek, who has carved his own path in the industry with a distinct mix of commercial and critically acclaimed roles, said that while comparisons are inevitable, he has always preferred to honour his father’s legacy by charting his own journey rather than stepping into any of his legendary characters.
The discussion at IFP offered fans a candid glimpse into the bond between the Bachchans and reaffirmed Abhishek’s long-standing stance that some classics are best left untouched, not out of hesitation but deep respect.
