NDTV has announced the appointment of Aayush Ailawadi as its new Editor, Tech and AI, as part of a renewed push to reshape the way technology is reported in India. Ailawadi’s appointment marks a key moment in the broadcaster’s effort to build a storytelling-led tech vertical that goes beyond specs and launches, and instead reflects the way technology is impacting lives, work, and culture in real time.
In an official press release, NDTV described much of today’s tech journalism as “disingenuous” — marked by clichés, mechanical polish, and hollow narratives. In contrast, the company says it wants to craft a “tech story for a new India,” one that feels purposeful, authentic, and unforgettable. Ailawadi, whose career spans technology, law, content creation, and multimedia innovation, is now set to lead that vision.
Ailawadi brings with him a distinctly interdisciplinary background. Trained in intellectual property law and cybersecurity, he transitioned into journalism with the analytical lens of a legal mind and the storytelling spirit of a creator. His work at the India Today Group led to the creation of ‘Tech Today’, one of the first platforms in India to explore technology as a cultural lens — blending AI, automotive, gadgets, innovation and policy into narratives that resonated with everyday life.
At Fortune India, Ailawadi expanded his editorial scope, curating a rich multimedia content library and pioneering a social-first product strategy, merging short-form formats with in-depth stories across print, digital and social platforms. His content has travelled far — from Indian screens to international ones like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and Instagram — bringing Indian innovation stories to global attention.
Among his most recognised projects was ‘Bad Boy Billionaires’, a Netflix docuseries that examined ambition and audacity through a lens of disruption and consequences. That same probing instinct is what NDTV now hopes will define its renewed tech coverage — one that will dig deep into the evolving worlds of AI, connected ecosystems, health tech, mobility, education, and entertainment.
Ailawadi has interviewed global tech leaders such as Apple CEO Tim Cook, inventor Sir James Dyson, and entrepreneur Carl Pei — not just to talk products, but to understand the vision and complexity behind some of the world’s boldest tech minds. His induction is expected to fuel NDTV’s strategy to blend deep-dive journalism with creator-led storytelling across television, social media, and digital platforms.
“Aayush brings a rare ability to make technology and AI stories insightful and engaging,” said Rahul Kanwal, CEO & Editor-in-Chief of NDTV. “His experience will strengthen the way NDTV brings complex tech narratives to life. We look forward to the fresh perspectives he will bring to our audiences.”
On his new role, Aayush Ailawadi said, “Storytelling in tech isn’t just about a piece of glass in a smartphone or the scripted hype of a new launch. It’s about people and the boundless possibilities technology unlocks. From AI to cutting-edge innovations, our focus will be on 360-degree coverage that’s insightful, credible and truly relevant to everyone’s lives.”
With this appointment, NDTV signals its intent to move beyond conventional tech reportage and build a narrative that mirrors India’s growing ambitions in innovation. As the network itself evolves to meet the demands of a new media landscape, it is counting on Ailawadi to shape how technology is understood — not just by early adopters, but by the everyday Indian whose life it touches.
