The upcoming episode of ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5’ is set to bring a wave of nostalgia as Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor revisits memories from one of her most iconic songs, ‘Goriya Chura Naa Meraa Jiya’ from the film Coolie No. 1.
The actress shared heartwarming anecdotes from the song’s shoot while appearing on the dance reality show, celebrating the spirit of dance that continues to connect generations.
According to a SET press release, the moment unfolded after contestant Anshika Dhara delivered an energetic performance on the popular track. Impressed by the act, Karisma praised the contestant for maintaining the original essence of the song while adding a contemporary touch.
Appreciating the performance, Karisma said the act successfully retained the flavour of the original song while introducing a modern twist. She commended both Anshika and choreographer Rupesh for their hard work, adding that she thoroughly enjoyed the performance and found it to be a refreshing take on the classic number.
The performance also prompted Karisma to reflect on her own experience while filming the song alongside Govinda. She revealed that she was only 17 or 18 years old at the time and felt extremely nervous about dancing with the superstar. The actress recalled that the song was among her first dance numbers with Govinda and also marked her first collaboration with renowned choreographer Ganesh Acharya.
Sharing memories from the set, Karisma recalled how director David Dhawan introduced her to Ganesh Acharya, who was then a relatively new choreographer. She remembered that both she and Ganesh were shy and trying to navigate the new collaboration. Karisma added that she was repeatedly reminded that she was performing alongside Govinda in a major dance number, which only added to her nervousness at the time.
The actress concluded her recollection on an emotional note, highlighting the dedication and effort that went into creating the song. She reflected on how timeless tracks such as ‘Goriya Chura Naa Meraa Jiya’ continue to inspire young performers years later and remain an important part of Bollywood’s musical legacy.
The episode promises a mix of memorable performances, emotional conversations, and nostalgic Bollywood stories, offering viewers a glimpse into the making of some of Hindi cinema’s most loved songs. Along with impressive dance acts, audiences can expect several heartfelt moments that celebrate the enduring magic of dance across generations.
