With polling concluded across key battleground states, attention has now firmly shifted to counting day, as the country awaits the final verdict with heightened anticipation. CNN-News18 has announced a comprehensive, real-time coverage plan titled ‘Battle for the States – The Verdict’, which will go live on May 4, promising viewers a full day of data-driven election insights and on-ground reporting.
According to a CNN-News18 press release, the special programming is part of the network’s broader multi-format editorial initiative, ‘Battle for the States’, launched at the start of the election cycle under the theme ‘Road to Power’. The May 4 coverage is positioned as a one-stop destination for viewers tracking results from West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Puducherry, combining real-time updates with in-depth analysis.
Leading the broadcast will be CNN-News18’s primetime anchors Rahul Shivshankar, Anand Narasimhan, Aman Sharma, Nabila Jamal and Shivani Gupta. They will be joined by a wide-ranging panel of political leaders, analysts and commentators, including Chetan Bhagat, GVL Narasimha Rao, Smita Prakash, Saira Shah Halim, Sumanth C Raman, Abhijit Iyer Mitra, Amitabh Tiwari, Abhijit Majumdar, Nalin Mehta, Tehseen Poonawalla, Subir Bhaumik and Manojit Mandal, ensuring a diverse mix of perspectives throughout the day.
At the core of the coverage will be the network’s Live Results Hub (LRH), designed as a central command centre to collate, verify and process real-time information from counting centres across constituencies. Integrating newsroom intelligence with advanced analytics and on-ground inputs, the LRH aims to deliver seamless and credible updates as results unfold.
CNN-News18 is also leaning on its legacy in election coverage, highlighting its track record of delivering fast and accurate results over the past two decades. From the 2024 General Elections to multiple state polls, the network has positioned itself as a preferred destination for election-day programming, driven by its “Always First, Always Right” approach.
Rahul Shivshankar, Editorial Affairs Director, CNN-News18, said, “Counting day is one of the most watched events in the electoral cycle, where speed and credibility are tested in real time. At CNN-News18, we have always believed in delivering news that is both accurate and timely, and ‘Battle for the States – The Verdict’ is built on that promise, combining ground reporting, sharp analysis and cutting-edge election technology to give viewers the clearest and fastest route to the verdict.”
Smriti Mehra, CEO – English & Business News, Network18, added, “Elections are defining national events, and audiences turn to brands they trust in moments that matter. CNN-News18 has consistently led from the front in every election coverage, and this special programming reflects the scale of our ambition and editorial strength.”
