Danish Khan, Business Head – Sony LIV and Studio NXT, is set to transition from Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) after completing a decade in his current leadership role. The company announced that Khan will continue with SPNI until March 31, 2026, to ensure a smooth transition and continuity across businesses.
According to an SPNI press release issued on December 18, 2025, Khan’s exit marks the close of a significant chapter in SPNI’s journey. Over more than 20 years across two stints with the network, he has played a central role in shaping some of its most influential television, studio and digital properties.
Khan rejoined SPNI a decade ago as Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and went on to lead Studio NXT before taking charge of Sony LIV in 2019. During his tenure at Sony LIV, he spearheaded the platform’s relaunch as Sony LIV 2.0 and scaled the digital business rapidly over the last five years. Under his leadership, Sony LIV recorded more than five-fold growth in topline revenue and a four-times increase in monthly active users, eventually contributing nearly a quarter of SPNI’s overall revenue, while maintaining a strong focus on profitability.
The platform also delivered a slate of critically acclaimed and popular titles such as ‘Scam’, ‘Maharani’, ‘Rocket Boys’, ‘Freedom at Midnight’, ‘Tabbar’ and ‘Shark Tank’, among others, helping establish Sony LIV as a serious player in India’s OTT landscape.
Earlier, as Business Head of SET, Khan oversaw the creation and growth of landmark non-fiction properties including ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati,’ ‘Super Dancer’ and ‘Superstar Singer’. His tenure also saw the launch of well-received fiction shows such as ‘Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai,’ ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’, ‘Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi’, ‘Beyhadh’ and ‘Patiala Babes’.
Khan is also credited with setting up Studio NXT, which went on to produce successful formats such as Shark Tank, Freedom at Midnight and Kaun Banega Crorepati. His leadership style, grounded in empathy, rigour and cultural awareness, has been closely associated with the evolution of Sony LIV and SPNI’s broader content strategy.
Commenting on the development, Gaurav Banerjee, MD & CEO, Sony Pictures Networks India, said, “Danish has been a key part of SPNI’s growth journey over the years, contributing across television, studio and digital businesses. We thank him for his leadership and the strong foundation he leaves behind, and wish him the very best for the future.”
Reflecting on his journey, Danish Khan said, “Sony Pictures Networks India has been an incredibly important part of my professional journey. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some exceptional teams and leaders, and to be part of building businesses and brands that truly matter. As I transition to the next chapter, I remain deeply grateful for the trust, support and shared ambition that defined my time here, and I wish the teams at Sony LIV and Studio NXT continued success in the years ahead.”
SPNI said it will share details of the succession plan in due course.
