Prime Video has announced the exclusive global streaming premiere of Maddock Films’ supernatural horror-comedy ‘Thamma’, which begins streaming today, December 16.

The film arrives on the platform following a successful theatrical run and will be available to audiences in India and more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

According to a Prime Video press release, ‘Thamma’ is produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner along with Amar Kaushik, and is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The screenplay has been written by Niren Bhatt, Arun Fulara and Suresh Mathew. The film features Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles, supported by Paresh Rawal and Faisal Malik, with special appearances by Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Banerjee, Nora Fatehi and Malaika Arora.

Set within the expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), ‘Thamma’ unfolds in a mythical world where supernatural forces and human emotions collide. The story follows Alok, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, positioned as humanity’s last hope, and Tadaka, portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna, a mystical being navigating a dark and fractured realm. Standing in their way is Yakshasan, enacted by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a formidable ruler of darkness threatening to plunge the world into chaos. The film blends horror, humour and romance, a combination that resonated strongly with audiences during its theatrical release.

The film also deepens the interconnected narrative of the MHCU, featuring cameo appearances and narrative links to earlier franchises such as ‘Stree’, ‘Stree 2’, ‘Munjya’ and ‘Bhediya’. These connections further enrich the shared universe and hint at future crossovers within the franchise.

Manish Menghani, director and head of content licensing at Prime Video India, said the platform was delighted to bring ‘Thamma’ to a global audience as part of its long-standing collaboration with Maddock Films. He noted that the film continues the studio’s legacy of blending folklore with contemporary storytelling, offering a genre-defying experience that combines supernatural elements with humour, romance and immersive world-building.

Producer Dinesh Vijan described ‘Thamma’ as an important step in expanding a folklore-rooted universe while maintaining Maddock Films’ signature genre-mixing approach. He added that the global streaming premiere allows the film to reach a much wider audience and further strengthen the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe across geographies.

Sharing their excitement, the lead cast reflected on the film’s unique appeal. Ayushmann Khurrana said the freshness of the script and its emotional core drew him to the project, while Rashmika Mandanna described the film as her first experience in the supernatural comedy space and expressed excitement about its global streaming debut. Nawazuddin Siddiqui noted that portraying the character of Yakshasan was unlike anything he had done before and said he was eager to see how audiences worldwide respond to the film on Prime Video.

With its exclusive digital premiere, ‘Thamma’ marks the latest addition to Prime Video’s growing slate of Indian films reaching global audiences through the streaming platform.
