Reliance Industries Limited has entered a major new chapter in global cricket by partnering with Surrey County Cricket Club to jointly own the Oval Invincibles franchise in The Hundred.
The announcement was made on Wed in Mumbai and London after both sides finalised the agreement, marking a significant shift in team ownership from the England and Wales Cricket Board.
According to an RIL press release, Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries and Surrey will hold 49 percent and 51percent stakes respectively. With this transition, both the men’s and women’s teams will be rebranded as MI London starting from the 2026 season, bringing the franchise under the expanding global umbrella of the Mumbai Indians family.
The Oval Invincibles enter this new phase as the most successful team in the history of The Hundred, having secured five titles in five seasons. The women’s side dominated the first two editions, while the men’s team clinched three consecutive championships from 2023 to 2025, making them one of the most formidable units in frachise cricket worldwide.
Their success has been built on a core of Surrey’s homegrown stars — including Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Will Jacks and Alice Capsey — supported by global cricketing icons such as Marizanne Kapp, Rashid Khan and Adam Zampa.
With the addition of MI London, the Mumbai Indians now operate seven teams across five countries and four continents, continuing their vision of expanding cricket’s footprint, developing emerging talent, and connecting fans across borders. Over 17 years, the MI group has amassed 13 league titles, becoming one of the most decorated entities in world cricket with trophies across the IPL, WPL, SA20, ILT20, Major League Cricket and Champions League T20.
Nita M. Ambani welcomed the London franchise into the “#OneFamily”, calling it a moment of pride for MI. “London holds a special place in the heart of cricket, and we are honoured to be part of its rich heritage. Together with Surrey, we look forward to nurturing young talent, engaging diverse communities, and uniting fans through their shared love of the game,” she said.
Akash Ambani described the partnership as a natural extension of MI’s global ambitions. “The Invincibles’ winning record and spirit of excellence perfectly embody the MI ethos of passion, resilience and teamwork. We look forward to collaborating with Surrey CCC and building on the legacy of The Hundred’s most successful team,” he added.
Surrey Chair Oli Slipper said the club is “pleased to have reached an agreement” with Reliance, praising their leadership in both cricket and business. “There’s no doubt that they are here to win. We have worked closely with Reliance on the name of the new team and believe MI London will give us the best opportunity to build the fanbase at home and across the world,” he said, adding that the brand will help drive long-term growth for Surrey and cricket in the community.
