George Kay, the acclaimed writer behind Netflix’s hit series ‘Lupin’, is developing a new Nordic crime drama titled ‘The Case’. The five-part thriller is set to stream globally on Netflix in 2026.
According to a UNI report, the series will follow investigator Thomas Berg, played by Jakob Oftebro, who finds himself hunting a serial killer targeting members of his own police force. In his desperate bid to solve the case, Thomas turns to his estranged father Alfred, once a celebrated detective but now a disgraced figure, portrayed by Peter Andersson.
The cast also features Electra Hallman, Alexander Abdallah, Henrik Norlén, Lisette T. Pagler, Magnus Krepper, Irina Björklund, Anders Mossling and Anna Maria Käll. Kristoffer Nyholm is directing the series, which has been created and written by Kay. Production, backed by B-Reel Films and Observatory Pictures in association with All3Media’s New Pictures, recently wrapped in Stockholm.
Executive producers on the show include Kay, Nyholm, Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford, while Johannes Åhlund and Ulf Synnerholm serve as producers for B-Reel. Aron Levander has adapted Kay’s scripts for Swedish audiences, co-writing additional episodes with Emilie Robson.
Speaking about the project, Kay said he was “thrilled” to collaborate with Netflix’s Nordic team, New Pictures and B-Reel Films, calling them the “best possible partners in crime”. He added that The Case is “part father-son love story, part criminal thriller” and aims to bring a chilling narrative to the backdrop of Stockholm’s endless summer.
Coming off the global success of ‘Lupin’, whose fourth season has recently wrapped production, Kay’s new venture is expected to offer a gripping psychological exploration of strained family ties, loyalty and the pursuit of justice in a Nordic noir setting.
