Prime Video has announced the exclusive Hindi streaming premiere of ‘Kannappa’, the Telugu mythological action drama led by Vishnu Manchu with high-profile cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal.
The Hindi-dubbed version is now available to Prime members in India, alongside the film’s Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada streams.
According to a press release from Prime Video, the Hindi debut is intended to make the film more accessible to North Indian audiences and broaden the reach of this devotional epic after its theatrical run. The announcement reiterates the streamer’s strategy of offering pan-Indian content in multiple languages to cater to diverse viewer preferences.
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu, ‘Kannappa’ follows the spiritual journey of Thinnadu (Vishnu Manchu) — a tribal warrior and avowed atheist whose life is transformed after an encounter with a manifestation of Lord Shiva. The film blends large-scale action with devotional themes and features elaborate production design, extensive VFX work and crowd-scale sequences.
The ensemble cast and cameo appearances have been a talking point through the film’s marketing: Akshay Kumar portrays a form of Lord Shiva, Prabhas appears as Rudra, and Mohanlal plays Kirata, while Kajal Aggarwal essays a significant female role. Makers say the pan-Indian casting was part of the attempt to position ‘Kannappa’ as a devotional epic with wide appeal.
For context, ‘Kannappa’ first made its OTT debut earlier in September in its original Telugu version and in several South Indian languages; Prime Video’s Hindi dub is the latest addition to that digital release strategy. The film is listed on Prime Video’s catalogue and can be streamed by subscribers in India.
The streamer’s announcement and subsequent media coverage underscore the continuing trend of South Indian theatrical releases receiving staggered, language-wise OTT rollouts to capture new audience segments after their theatrical windows. Viewers interested in the film can find ‘Kannappa’ on Prime Video’s platform now.
