Shemaroo Contentino, the inflight entertainment (IFE) arm of Shemaroo Entertainment, has completed a decade at the helm of premium Indian content distribution for airlines, reinforcing its leadership in a rapidly expanding aviation market.
The company has built its success on transparency, long-term partnerships, and a strategic approach that has benefited content owners, airlines, and service providers alike. The company’s entry into the inflight content space a decade ago came at a time when the segment was largely overlooked, with little structure or visibility for content creators.
Today, Shemaroo Contentino commands a 90 percent share of premium Indian content in IFE. Its extensive library features more than 3,000 movies, 25,000 television episodes, and 1,500 music tracks across over 15 languages. From serving just a few carriers in its early days, it now partners with over 100 global airlines, including Emirates, Air India, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Qantas, United, Delta, ANA, Saudia Airlines, Air New Zealand, Riyadh Air, and Virgin Atlantic.
The company’s growth has been propelled by collaborations with more than 125 content partners, ranging from leading Bollywood production houses such as YRF, Dharma Productions, Applause Entertainment, Maddock, Jio Studios, and Z Studios to major regional players like SVF, Whitehill Studios, A P International, Homescreen, and Mango Movies. By introducing Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other regional programming, as well as integrating OTT originals into airline lineups, Shemaroo Contentino has expanded the scope of inflight viewing. Popular shows including ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’, ‘Rocket Boys’, ‘Koffee with Karan’, and ‘Undekhi’ are now widely available to international flyers.
Reflecting on the journey, Murtuza Kagalwala, Managing Partner at Shemaroo Contentino, said, “This 10-year journey has been about more than just content distribution. It has been about building trust, transparency, and value for every stakeholder in the ecosystem. From educating content owners on the commercial potential of inflight entertainment to helping airlines design culturally relevant programming for their passengers, we have always believed in innovation backed by insights. As we celebrate a decade of success, we are excited to chart the next phase of growth with new technologies, wider partnerships, and more compelling storytelling that reflects the richness of Indian entertainment.”
Looking forward, Shemaroo Contentino plans to expand into wireless streaming, connectivity, and multilingual content distribution, further deepening its global presence and enhancing entertainment experiences for travelers worldwide.
