Streamer Netflix has said that in August, 0.5 percent of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) saw an increase of 0.2 Mbps, 18 percent stayed the same, 81 percent decreased 0.2 Mbps, and 0.5 percent went down 0.4 Mbps on the Netflix ISP Speed Index, a monthly update on which ISPs provide the best prime-time Netflix streaming experience.
Five countries and regions were in the top performance tier in August that included Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Spain and the UK. All of these markets registered an average speed of 3.2 Mbps.
No specific countries saw a significant overall gain or loss in speed since July’s results, but a few ISPs did experience notable increases and decreases this month. Copaco in Paraguay increased from 1.2 to 1.4 Mbps and FarEasTone in Taiwan rose from 2.2 to 2.4 Mbps. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s FASTtelco fell from 2.6 to 2.2 Mbps and Israel’s Xfone dropped from 3.2 to 2.8 Mbps.
The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime-time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services or data that may travel across the specific ISP network.
Higher Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
Indian ISPs figuring in the list included 7 Star Digital, Airtel, Alliance Broadband, Atria Convergence Technologies, D-VoiS Excitel Broadband, GTPL, Hathway, Jio Giga Fiber, One Broadband, Tata Play Fiber and YOU Broadband — and all registered speeds of 3 Mbps in August.
