The highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash during the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy has set an all-time record for live sports streaming, hitting a staggering 60.2 crore peak concurrency on JioHotstar. This marks the highest viewership ever recorded for a cricket match on a digital platform, solidifying India’s cricketing rivalry as the ultimate crowd magnet.
According to PTI, the thrilling match, held in Dubai, saw peak viewership soar when Virat Kohli struck the winning runs, sealing India’s victory while also completing his 51st international century. Fans across the country stayed glued to their screens as Kohli guided India to chase down a challenging target of 241 runs, driving the numbers to record-breaking heights.
JioHotstar, born from the merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, became the streaming destination for millions during the blockbuster Indo-Pak encounter. The match saw consistent spikes in viewership throughout its course:
- The opening over, bowled by Mohammed Shami, drew in 6.8 crore viewers.
- During the last over of Pakistan’s innings, viewership peaked at 32.1 crore, increasing to 32.2 crore during the innings break.
- India’s chase saw a rise to 33.8 crore, holding steady at 36.2 crore before the dramatic final moments pushed the figure to an unprecedented 60.2 crore.
This new milestone has left previous records far behind. The earlier highest peak concurrency was 3.5 crore, recorded during the India-Pakistan clash in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Even the Asia Cup showdown between the two nations saw a peak of only 2.8 crore viewers.
The India-Pakistan rivalry once again proved its global appeal, attracting millions not only on digital platforms but also on traditional television through JioStar, a joint venture formed by the merger of Viacom18 and Star India.
While the streaming numbers have already made history, official TV viewership data from the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) is expected next week, which could further amplify the total audience count.
This monumental viewership milestone highlights the power of cricket in uniting millions, as India-Pakistan matches continue to dominate the global sporting landscape.
