BBC Studios has signed a multi-year local production deal with Banijay Asia, marking a strategic shift as it exits direct production operations in India.
The collaboration will allow Banijay Asia exclusive access to BBC Studios’ scripted and unscripted format catalogue, bringing several popular global shows to the Indian audience.
Amid industry challenges, BBC Studios has decided to cease its own production activities in India once current commitments are completed. Instead, it will focus on this new partnership model with Banijay Asia, leveraging Banijay’s regional expertise to expand the reach of its formats.
Under this deal, Banijay Asia will introduce BBC Studios’ existing and new formats to the Indian market. This includes:
Unscripted formats such as The 1 percent Club and Dancing with the Stars
Scripted formats like The Office and Ghosts
Banijay Asia, known for adapting international content for Indian audiences, will now have the opportunity to expand BBC Studios’ footprint in the region. This deal strengthens Banijay’s position in the scripted and reality TV space, bringing globally successful formats to Indian viewers in localized versions.
With this strategic move, BBC Studios ensures its formats continue thriving in India, while Banijay Asia gains access to premium content that has a proven track record worldwide.
