Christopher Nolan’s film ‘The Odyssey’ has become the highest-grossing IMAX film ever released in India. The movie achieved this milestone in just 17 days by earning Rs.63 crore from 34 IMAX screens, surpassing the previous IMAX record set by ‘Oppenheimer’.
According to a Warner Bros. Discovery India press release from Mumbai today, the film’s success was driven not only by its strong opening but also by a sustained IMAX campaign that kept audiences engaged throughout its theatrical run.
Warner Bros. Discovery, Universal Pictures International, IMAX Corporation and leading cinema chains across India worked together to promote the IMAX experience and maintain audience interest. Before the film’s release, Christopher Nolan and members of the cast visited Mumbai for its IMAX premiere.
Videos and photos from the event went viral on social media, generating huge excitement among movie fans. To enhance the movie-going experience, cinemas offered limited-edition character pins, IMAX T-shirts, original IMAX film strips, exclusive posters and other merchandise.
These initiatives encouraged many fans to return to theatres and watch the film again in IMAX. The press release said the overwhelming response from Indian audiences has helped ‘The Odyssey’ become the biggest IMAX release in the country’s history, highlighting the growing popularity of Christopher Nolan’s films among Indian moviegoers.
