Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is set to make his Telugu debut with the mythological film ‘Kannappa’, taking on the revered role of Lord Shiva. The actor shared his first look from the film on Instagram, where he is seen embodying the divine aura of Mahadev, holding a trishul in one hand and a damru in the other, IANS reported.
The poster features the tagline, “The Supreme Lord Who Rules Over The Three Worlds Surrenders Himself to Pure Devotion.”
Expressing his excitement, Akshay captioned the post, “Stepping into the sacred aura of Mahadev for #Kannappa. Honored to bring this epic tale to life. May Lord Shiva guide us on this divine journey. Om Namah Shivaya!”
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu, ‘Kannappa’ is a mythological epic based on the legendary story of ‘Kannappa’, a devout follower of Lord Shiva. The film delves into themes of devotion and divine grace, bringing together a stellar ensemble cast including Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Mohanlal, Prabhas, and Kajal Aggarwal.
The film is set to hit theaters on April 25, 2025, marking a significant milestone in Akshay Kumar’s illustrious career as he takes on one of the most iconic roles in Indian mythology.
Akshay Kumar is no stranger to playing spiritually significant roles. In 2023, he portrayed a messenger of Lord Shiva in ‘OMG 2’, a film that explored the challenges of faith and societal norms. Akshay’s portrayal earned praise for its subtle yet impactful depiction of devotion and guidance.
With Kannappa, Akshay takes his connection with Lord Shiva to new heights, embodying the deity himself.
Apart from Akshay, the film boasts a diverse cast of celebrated actors, including Mohanlal, Prabhas, and Kajal Aggarwal. The involvement of such high-profile names, coupled with its mythological roots, positions Kannappa as one of the most anticipated releases of 2025.
