Netflix India is set to become the exclusive streaming platform for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) content in the country, beginning April 2025. This transition marks the conclusion of WWE’s two-decade partnership with Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), Business Standard reported.
The shift is part of a global 10-year, $5 billion agreement between WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings, and Netflix. This deal signifies Netflix’s strategic move into sports entertainment, aiming to diversify its content offerings and attract a broader audience base.
SPNI had previously renewed its WWE media rights in 2020 for an estimated $180-$210 million over five years. With the current agreement set to expire in March 2025, Netflix will assume the rights, providing Indian audiences with access to WWE’s extensive programming, including flagship shows like ‘Raw’ and ‘SmackDown’, as well as pay-per-view events.
This development aligns with Netflix’s global strategy to incorporate live sports into its streaming repertoire. In January 2025, Netflix will begin streaming “Raw” in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Latin America, marking a significant shift from traditional linear television to digital streaming platforms.
