Atul Chaudhary has been named the new secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), succeeding V. Raghunandan, who retired on May 31 after an illustrious 28-year career. Raghunandan’s retirement was formally announced during a TRAI open house event on May 15. Throughout his tenure, he oversaw significant telecom projects, enforced telecom regulations across various regions, and spearheaded key policy implementations.
Chaudhary’s appointment follows his notable service as Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). A distinguished officer from the 1989 batch of the Indian Telecommunication Services (ITS), Chaudhary has also held a prominent position at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as a Deputy Director General.
With an educational background that includes a degree from IIT Roorkee and a Master’s Diploma in Public Policy and Administration from the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Delhi, Chaudhary brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role.
His professional journey has seen him contribute significantly in various roles within Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and DoT, particularly in personnel, human resources, administration, licensing, and vigilance divisions.
His appointment as TRAI Secretary marks a new chapter in his distinguished career, where he is expected to bring his extensive expertise to further the regulatory body’s mission in the evolving telecom sector.
