Prime Video India has announced the launch of ‘Wedding.con,’ a gripping true-crime docu-series delving into the stories of five women ensnared in deceit while seeking their ideal partners.
The series, set to premiere soon, sheds light on their heartbreaking journey toward marriage, tainted by emotional and financial exploitation at the hands of fraudulent individuals.
The show intimately chronicles these women’s aspirations for a fulfilling marriage, only to encounter betrayal by imposters posing as prospective grooms on online platforms. These perpetrators, assuming false identities, leave a trail of emotional devastation and financial ruin in their wake.
‘Wedding.con,’ produced by BBC Studios India and helmed by Tanuja Chandra, renowned for her work in notable films like ‘Dil To Pagal Hai,’ ‘Dushman,’ and ‘Sangharsh,’ draws attention to the darker side of romantic quests in the digital age.
Drawing comparisons to Netflix’s ‘The Tinder Swindler’ and the thematic essence of ‘Indian Matchmaking,’ the series promises a compelling narrative intertwined with the perils of online deception.
Aparna Purohit, head of Originals for India and Southeast Asia at Prime Video, emphasized the platform’s commitment to portraying authentic women-centric narratives. She highlighted the show’s focus on amplifying diverse female voices and experiences, aligning with Prime Video’s dedication to empowering and celebrating women on and off the screen.
As ‘Wedding.con’ unveils the harrowing realities of love entangled with deception, the series aims to spotlight these poignant stories and shed light on the resilience of those affected by such heart-wrenching betrayals.”
