SLL’s acclaimed Korean romance drama ‘Something in the Rain’ has made its way to Indian audiences with its official adaptation, ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar (Maybe This is Love)’.
Produced by Pocket Aces, the Indian remake is airing on COLORS and streaming on JioHotstar, marking another step in SLL’s efforts to expand its content IP globally through collaborations with local production houses and platforms.
The adaptation brings the emotional depth of the original Korean series to Indian viewers while exploring relationships, personal choices and the courage to love beyond societal expectations. The show has been receiving an encouraging response from audiences, reflecting the growing appeal of stories that resonate with contemporary relationship dynamics.
The story follows Preeti Arora, a 35-year-old working woman in Delhi who finds herself falling for Aarav Ahuja, a game developer ten years younger than her. Following a painful breakup with her longtime boyfriend Gaurav Gulati, Preeti begins a new relationship that challenges her understanding of love, marriage and the idea of an ideal partner. As she navigates family pressure and societal expectations, Preeti must decide what truly matters to her happiness.
While retaining the emotional essence of ‘Something in the Rain’, the Indian adaptation brings the narrative into the cultural and social context of contemporary India. Aditi Dev Sharma plays Preeti, while Daksh Puri portrays Aarav and Kunal Karan Kapoor essays the role of Gaurav. The show airs Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm on COLORS and JioHotstar.
The original ‘Something in the Rain’ premiered on JTBC in 2018 and gained popularity for its honest portrayal of love and social expectations. According to TNMS ratings, the drama recorded a rise from 3.8 percent during its premiere to 7.1 percent for its finale, nearly doubling its ratings over the course of its run.
Commenting on the adaptation, Sameer Gogate, Business Head, COLORS – JioStar, said, “The adaptation of Something in the Rain into Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar was an opportunity to bring a globally acclaimed love story to Indian audiences while preserving the emotional depth and authenticity that made the original so compelling. Our endeavour was to retain the heart of the story while reimagining it through the cultural nuances, family dynamics and societal expectations that shape how relationships are experienced in India.”
He added that the encouraging response to the show reaffirmed the belief that powerful storytelling transcends geographies and languages when rooted in genuine human emotions. Gogate also highlighted how globally loved stories can build meaningful connections with audiences when adapted with cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the market.
Vinay Pillai, Chief Executive Officer at Pocket Aces, said, “‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ reflects how stories about love, relationships and personal choices transcend cultural boundaries. Having pioneered young adult romance storytelling in India, Pocket Aces’ Dice Media has consistently explored the nuances of modern relationships through relatable and emotionally resonant narratives.”
Pillai further noted that the growing popularity of K-dramas in India made the adaptation of ‘Something in the Rain’ an exciting opportunity to bring a much-loved Korean story to Indian audiences while preserving its emotional depth and essence. He added that the collaboration with SLL demonstrates how compelling narratives can transcend cultures and resonate with audiences across generations.
Charles Park, Content Business Director at SLL, said, “‘Something in the Rain’ is about love, relationships, and having the courage to make your own choices, and those are themes people everywhere can relate to. ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ shows how a Korean story can be reshaped for local audiences without losing what made the original special.”
Park added that SLL looks forward to working with more local partners to bring its stories to viewers around the world, further strengthening the global reach of its content through culturally tailored adaptations.
