The Delhi High Court yesterday ordered Twitter to reveal basic subscriber information, such as e-mail addresses, IP addresses and phone numbers, for some of its users who are allegedly sharing clips from Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film ‘Jawan’.

Following a lawsuit filed by the film’s producer, Red Chillies Entertainments Pvt Ltd, the court previously ordered YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit to immediately block and remove any unauthorized broadcast of the film’s content and clips.

The plaintiff’s counsel claimed that five accounts were posting infringing material on Twitter and demanded that those ‘leaking this have access’ to the company’s ‘system’ and that the identities of these account users be revealed, PTI reported from New Delhi.

“The court directs defendant no. 2 (Twitter) to provide information of the accounts with advance service to the plaintiff’s counsel so that the plaintiff can take appropriate action,” Justice C Hari Shankar ruled.

In April, the court ordered that no stills, songs, audio, and video clips related to ‘Jawan’ be copied, recorded, displayed, or released without a proper license.

It also instructed YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit to immediately block and remove any infringing content or clips referred to by the production house.

The interim order was issued in response to a petition filed by the production house seeking to prevent various rogue websites, ISPs, and others who provide platforms through which content can be uploaded to the internet from broadcasting or airing any part of ‘Jawan’, which was produced by the plaintiff and over which it claims to copyright.

The plaintiff had alleged that clips and stills from the film are already available on the internet over various platforms, though no licence to broadcast or transmit any part of the film has, till date, been granted by the plaintiff to any entity.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theatres on September 7.
