Streaming giant Netflix is testing ‘Fast Laughs’, a curated stream of comedy clips, on its TV app.
According to ANI, the feature lets one sift through a collection of short videos from shows and movies on Netflix, each lasting 30 seconds or more, to discover new content or help decide what to watch.
Once a consumer opted into the feature (and if one’s a part of the test), one can access ‘Fast Laughs’ by scrolling down on the Netflix homepage. From there, one can click into the feature, where full-screen clips from ‘Army of the Dead’, ‘Big Mouth’, Jerry Seinfeld’s stand-up special, and more overtakes the screen.
The arrows on either side of the clip lets one advance to the next clip or go back, and one can add a title to your List, as well as jump directly into the show or movie you’re watching.
Unlike Netflix’s ‘Play Something’ feature, which lets one shuffle through content suggestions tailored to a taste, ‘Fast Laughs’ is curated entirely by Netflix staff, meaning you won’t get that personalized touch. But, the algorithm-stripped ‘Fast Laughs’ might expose you to different content than what Netflix’s deeply ingrained recommendation system already calls your attention to, which often tends to get pretty stale.
Last year, Netflix rolled out ‘Fast Laughs’ on its mobile app. As opposed to the TV version of the feature, the mobile version presents itself in a vertical, TikTok-like stream.
Netflix’s ‘Fast Laugh’ feature is slowly rolling out to users in the US, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, and “other select English-speaking countries.” Only adult profiles have access to the feature
