India’s paid Direct-to-Home (DTH) television industry lost around 7.51 million active subscribers in a year, as its subscriber base continued to decline, according to an October 13 report in The Economic Times.
Quoting data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the ET report yesterday stated that the combined active subscriber base of the country’s four private DTH operators fell 13.4 percent year-on-year to 48.56 million as of June 30, compared with 56.07 million a year earlier.
The decline continued in the April-June quarter, with the subscriber base falling from 49.05 million in March 2026. The figures cover Tata Play, Bharti Telemedia, Sun Direct and Dish TV India, and exclude subscribers of the free DD Free Dish service.
Tata Play remained the largest private DTH operator, with 14.84 million active subscribers and a 30.56 percent market share. Bharti Telemedia followed with 13.58 million subscribers, while Sun Direct had 10.93 million and Dish TV India had 9.21 million.
